What to Wear to Your Photo Session

(So You Can Stop Stressing and Start Feeling Excited)

Booking your session was the easy part...you're excited, the date is set, and you can already picture the beautiful images we'll create. But now comes the question that sends so many into a spiral:

"What the heck do I wear?"

If you're staring at your closet feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or just plain lost - this post is for you. I'm here to help you feel confident, inspired, and totally prepared. With a little guidance (and a few visuals), you'll go from unsure to fully styled!

My Styling Philosophy

My approach to styling is all about feeling natural, timeless, and comfortable.

Think:

Classic cuts

Neutral tones

Easy fabrics like linen, cotton, and denim

Delicate patterns that won't distract

Why?

Because I never want the outfit to take away from what really matters - your connection, emotion, and personality. The goal is effortless, not overdone.

Avoid:

Loud patterns

Neon colors

Logos

Anything that feels like it's wearing you instead of the other way around.

What to Wear - By Session Type

Maternity

You're radiating, and your bump deserves to shine.

  • Flowy, feminine silhouettes
  • Light, breathable fabrics
  • Something that accentuates your shape without being restrictive

Couples

These sessions are customized to your love story. Outfit vibes can depend on location and energy:

  • Engagement? The bride-to-be in white is a classic
  • Beach? Light linens, barefoot, white tees
  • Garden? Midi dress, khakis, romantic details
  • Field? Denim, boots, and maybe cowboy hats

Families

Coordinated but not copy/paste. Here's the magic formula:

  • Stick to a shared palette
  • Add interest with textures and layers
  • Mix up the silhouettes to avoid looking too uniform

Branding

This one is personal - and should be!

Your wardrobe should reflect your brand, your craft, an your vibe. Bold, muted, polished, edgy...

Whatever you are, we'll make it shine.

Little Details That Make a Big Difference

Some tiny things that can accidentally throw off the vibe of your shoot:

  • Watch for visible bra straps or undergarments showing through light fabric
  • Take off hair ties and Apple Watches from your wrist
  • Don't wear a hat all day before your session (hello hat hair)
  • Empty your pockets (don't worry, I always bring a bag with extra space if you need to stash anything during the session. We're keeping it cute and practical)
